Effective immediately, we have changed the Office retail license agreement to allow customers to transfer the software from one computer to another. You have to remove Office from you old computer first. You should know if the Office is a free trial version as you will know whether you paid the retail version price of Office.

When you download Office for the first time onto your computer that computer becomes the licenced computer. Yes, your Office is 'tied to the hardware'. What you can extract is 5 characters of your Office's Actual Product Key. Tell us what bundle you have and if it is activated. It will tell you what Office bundle you have and if it is activated or not. MS pays to have a "free trial" of Office installed at the factory. We can now only extract the last 5 char of the product key. Back in Office MS dis "improved" the way the key is stored on the computer. You can no longer extract the Office product key. My problem is that I'm not sure how to extract the Office activation key and I don't want to lose it when I replace Windows with Linux. I will then activate my Office products inside of the VM. When I open one of these apps, I'm prompted to activate my Office license to use the products. Along with the purchase, I also bought an Office activation key.
